Turtles

More Maui

We were  given  lots of recommendations about what to do during our stay. One of the "must dos" was to go out sailing on the catamaran Alii Nui to see turtles. It was a good recommendation. It is a luxury boat and cost a little more than other trips but it was delightful to have a warm shower when we got out of the water and wonderful food en route plus champagne to start with. It was the sort of experience that runs the risk of spoiling one for future less extravagant voyages. But we enjoyed it.
We went to an area where turtles gather to have their shells cleaned by small Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse. They are small fish and the turtles are quite polite about taking turns to have this done.

I even got a chance to steer under the watchful eye of the captain.

Bob got these photos with his simple under water camera as we snorkelled. There was a variety of colours and sizes of fish.

You are not allowed to touch the turtles but they are accustomed to snorkelers and this one came very close to me - so close I had to keep pulling my hands back so I didn't touch it. A great experience.

Another best of the best photo.
