Sucaraz
After Korcula we decided to go inland in a way that Peter hadn’t been before. We wanted a safe mooring for the night and didn’t have expectations of anything great. We intended to cook on board so didn’t need any provisions. So we pulled into a fishing village on the end of the Island of Hvar and guess what it was gorgeous. No frills but people going about their business with a few tourists only. It was very refreshing after the more swept up towns of the past few days. We had an initial walk around town and found a fisherman mending his nets. In case you're wondering if I'm taking recognisable photos of people like this and the gorgeous elderly lady below I always seek their permission. It is rarely not given and then I refrain.
My visions of staying in a hotel called Lavendar would be disappointed if I arrived at this but there you go!
After eating on board Ann and I went for a
walk along the road out of town. What we found growing was extraordinary.
Firstly huge vegetable gardens growing profusely in peoples houses.
Then on the roadside lots of wild herbs – mint, sage oregano, laurel bay trees, lavender and olives. They were all healthy if not cultivated. The scent of the lavender is amazing. I've since found out it would not have been growing wild but in an abandoned garden. We picked some to have on the boat and I've dried some and made my own lavender bag. The other herbs were all wild though.
And then we saw this beautiful sunset. Quite a walk!

Even a Juno dog - miss you Juno
